Blending tradition Cuban music, jazz, and contemporary Afro-Cuban sounds, 2021 Juno Award Winners OKAN embraces every culture and welcomes it as its own. In the religion of santería, “okan” means “soul.” This is embodied in the great sophistication of their music – a look to the history of Cuban music with a modern and fresh touch; the evolution of Cuban music outside of Cuba.

Quique Escamilla is a mayan-mestizo, born and raised in the tropical southern lands of the state of Chiapas, Mexico. He started singing Mexican traditional folk songs at the age of four at his family reunions. Today, Quique is a Juno Award winner and an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, producer, and an international touring artist based in Toronto, Canada.
